Things look like they’re getting rockier and rockier in New England but that doesn’t necessarily mean the frenzy that struck up today about Rob Gronkowski being traded had much truth to it.
A report surfaced that Gronk was on the way out with others saying a trade was as good as done. The media and people in New England went a little crazy for a while until other media outlets chimed in to calm the waters. NBC Sports Boston’s Tom E. Curran reported there would be no news coming and Michael Giardi, Curran’s colleague said there was no truth to the rumors and that Gronkowski wasn’t going anywhere.
I was just told to stand down everyone. Gronk ain't going anywhere. "No truth" to rumor says someone who knows

While no one knows what’s really going on, many people are assuming the rumors didn’t just pop up out of nowhere. A report by Adam Kurkjian wrote, “from multiple sources, here’s what I have re: the Gronk rumors. Told Belichick wanted to trade him. Offers on the table w both the Titans and 49ers. He and Robert Kraft had a closed-door meeting to discuss. Tom Brady threatened to retire if the deal went through. Kraft nixed it.”
Yes, the story went from Gronk being traded, to him not being traded to the team trying to trade him until Tom Brady threatened to retire and stop certain decisionmakers from trading the best tight end in football and good friend of Brady, Rob Gronkowski. Yikes.

Regardless of what really happened on Friday, this is a huge soap opera that is starting to speak volumes about the relationship between Belichick, his team and his star quarterback. There were rumors of unrest in New England already, but to this level, most fans were likely in the dark.
During the offseason, Gronkowski admitted he wasn’t sure what his future would hold when it came to football. He’d considered calling it quits after the Patriots lost to the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl 52 and part of the reasoning was the strict rules and guidelines being enforced by Belichick who is known as a harda$$ but also an extremely successful coach. It appears some of the players are starting to question if this is all worth it and if Gronk was in Belichick’s bad books, it wouldn’t shock people to hear the Hoodie might be trying to ship him out of town.
If any of what happened today has some truth to it, what a mess things are for the Patriots. Something has to give in New England and it sounds like things might get weirder before they get better. The coach and players aren’t getting along, Julian Edelman was suspended, Gronk was traded, then he wasn’t and Brady threatened to retire?
